NTNU Signed the MOU Contract with United States Barnard Elementary School

NTNU made a breakthrough in overseas Mandarin teaching internship. The Department of Applied Chinese Language and Literature cooperated with the public elementary school for the first time. On July 2nd, Director Lin Chen Yung from Center of Teacher Education and Careers Service represented NTNU to sign the education cooperation contract with United States Barnard Elementary School.

NTNU established Department of Applied Chinese Language and Literature five years ago. The cooperation with Unites States in the past was mostly limited in the university, Mandarin teaching institutes, or language center.
Director Lin Chen Yung indicated that, “Welcome teachers from Barnard Elementary School to NTNU. We are happy to sign the education cooperation contract with you. In the global world now, Mandarin has become the international language. We hope to provide the chance for NTNU students to intern overseas.”
Although the American Born Korean Principal from Barnard Elementary School didn’t understand Mandarin, he greeted NTNU with “Hello!” in Mandarin. He mentioned that Mandarin would play an important role in the 21st century. Taiwan had maintained the greatest traditional Chinese culture and was the core of Mandarin speaking area. Hoped through the cooperation contract, Taiwanese students could pass down the knowledge of old Chinese to the young students in United States.
