TOCFL Testing Number Break the Record

 The Mandarin test specially designed for the foreigners, Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) had accumulated 100 thousand examinees. 20 thousands examinees participated in the test this year. Besides the testing spots in Taiwan, 49 regions in 28 countries had the test held. Several examinees got the full mark in the test. They showed up and shared their testing experiences in the press conference on August 1st.

Mandarin had become the international language in the 21st century after English, French, and Spanish. The number of Mandarin learners increased rapidly in the past few years. The TOCFL was set by Ministry of Education in 2005. NTNU was authorized to hold the test. It tested students listening, reading, speaking, and writing ability. The testing number accumulated up to 100 thousands ever since the test started. This year (2012) had reached 23,414 examinees in the middle of the year, reached the highest number ever. The overseas testing spots had set at Austria, Ecuador, Vietnam, Panama, Germany, Netherlands, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Great Britain, and Unites States, 28 countries in total. 
Furthermore, TOCFL had gradually supported and accepted by schools in Taiwan and overseas. The certificate could be 1, the standard for “Taiwan Scholarship”. 2, counted for the University Entrance Test for Overseas Chinese Students. 3, Mandarin ability reference for foreign students entrance standard to Taiwan University. 4, language ability proof for employment. TOCFL had cooperated with many foreign language institutes. The test score could be accepted by overseas unit as well.
Students from Malaysia, Poland, Russia, and Vietnam shared their Mandarin learning experiences on the press conference. TOCFL officially held twice each year, the first Saturday in May and November. The next tests would be held on November 3rd. More information on: http://www.sc-top.org.tw/
