NTNU Enlisted in the World's Most International Universities 2017

The percentage of international students of a university is one of the important indicators in the ranking of universities in the world. Times Higher Education has compiled a list of top 200 universities in the world with the highest oversea student rate. The only school in Taiwan on the list is National Normal Taiwan University, ranked 152 with the rate of 23.4%. About 6,000 students from more than 80 countries study at MTC every year, there are also 1,500 oversea Chinese students on campus. 
According to an article posted on April 26t by Times Higher Education, “The higher education world is getting smaller as more and more students are choosing to study abroad. Students are looking to universities to provide an international experience, the opportunity to study alongside students from all over the world, and to give them a truly global higher education community in which to study.” 
Times Higher Education found out that among the top 200 universities with the highest international student rate, 30% of them are young universities aged under 30, which shows that younger schools are appealing to International students. The only school in Taiwan on the list is NTNU, ranked 152 with 23.4% oversea students.
An International campus is one of the features of NTNU. NTNU takes part in International cooperation and cultural exchange events, build relationships with renowned universities abroad as well as provide students with opportunities like double degree program, student exchange program and short term language learning course and internship. NTNU also encourages students to volunteer in a different country. 
When walking in the campus of NTNU, you can see people from all around the globe. MTC with more than 60 years of history attracts more than 6000 students each year to learn Mandarin. The number of foreign students who come to NTNU for degrees is rising year by year. In the semester year of 2016, there are 1250 foreign students that accounted for 8.5% of total students of NTNU. 
NTNU has 304 sister schools around the world in almost every continent. This year, we welcome 341 oversea students to come and study in NTNU whereas send 386 students aboard. The figures have increased compared with last year. 
Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students is the only institution providing university preparatory education to overseas Chinese. It provides the impetus for a wide range of students to receive higher education, enhance language abilities, and acquire in a genuine Taiwan setting. DPPOCS presents reunion day and International cultural booth every year, attracting those who are interested in different cultures. 
President Chang said that in this 21st century, the need of people with International vision and ability is on the rise. In higher education, we need to prepare our students with general knowledge as well as cross field integration ability. Through learning from a different culture can we know more about our homeland and generate new ideas.
