Asia Pacific Forum for Science Talented kicks off at NTNU on JUL 6 2019

Elites from 16 Asia Pacific countries demonstrate leadership skills in Taipei

The Fifth Asia Pacific Forum for Science Talented (APFST) will kick off this Saturday (July 6 2019) in National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). The six-day forum includes teacher forum featuring Infusing Leadership into Science Teaching, hands-on projects, and numerous cultural events. Each participating country or region sends a delegation of six students and two teachers or officials as group leaders. This year, the APFST will host delegations from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam. The number of participating countries and guests has reached an all-time high of 16 countries, 100 students and 45 scholars and officials from ministry of education and technology of several participating countries.

Building Friendship without Borders

Tsai Chih-ming, the head of the division for Indigenous People and Special Education of K-12 Education Administration, and Professor Yao-Ting Sung, vice president of National Taiwan Normal University, will be speaking at the opening ceremony on July 7 2019. Also, each delegation will introduce their country with cultural performance in the opening ceremony. Professor Sung, vice president of NTNU, points out that what makes the APFST stand out from other international competitions like the Olympiads, which focuses on competitions among countries, is that the APFST emphasizes collaboration among participating countries. What’s more, Taipei Ren-ai Maker Education and Technology Center will host this year’s teachers’ hands-on project on July 8 2019. The APFST certainly breaks boundaries and serves as an effective platform for talented scholars young and old to bond and build friendship.

Nurturing Leadership for Future Scientists

The theme of 2019 APFST is Nurturing Leadership for Future Scientists. Students will have to work with their assigned teammates from different countries, and incorporate skills of coordination, collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation into the AI Competition in the hands-on project. Students will showcase the result of their team work at the lobby of National Taiwan Science Education Center from 10AM to 11AM on July 9 and 10, 2019. Everyone is welcome to stop by and observe students’ amazing work.

Celebrating The Sparkle of Collaborated Talents

The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place at the auditorium of National Taiwan Normal University at 9AM on July 11 2019.
