NTNU Graduate Student Lee Ming Feng Speaks at 2019 IAVE Conference

Lee Ming Feng, a graduate student at the Department of Civic Education and Leadership, was invited again as the speaker at the 16th IAVE Asia Pacific Volunteer Conference again. Lee also attended the conference in Germany as Taiwanese representative last year. This year, he and his team went to Bangkok, Thailand from November 10th to 15th as Taiwanese youth volunteer. He delivered a keynote speech “Make your Youth Volunteering Program simple and impactful” on November 14th, sharing his experience of managing volunteer groups across universities and serving. This year is the 17th year of Lee devoting himself into charity work, with more than 9,000 hours volunteering.

Yushan Young Scholars at NTNU

The Yushan Scholar Program by the Ministry of Education started in 2018. The object is to attract the world’s elite by providing internationally competitive salaries and benefits so that their expertise can take root in Taiwan’s academic environment and increase the international impact of Taiwan’s higher education. Two Yushan Youth Scholar was appointed, one is Prof. Ulrich Menne at the Department of Mathematics and another, Assistant Professor Lee Yueh Ning, goes to the Department of Earth Sciences.

Nobel Judge Swedish Sinologist Göran Malmqvist Dies Aged 95

Internationally known Swedish Sinologist Göran Malmqvist, Chair Professor at the Department of Chinese, dies on October 17th, aged 95. His wife Chen Wen Feng said that Ma dies peacefully at home. He was not only elected to the Swedish Academy but also the only Sinologist among the Nobel Literature Prize judges. He had been dedicated to the study of Chinese literature and has translated over 50 classic Chinese literature including Journey to the West, Water Margin, Classic of Poetry.

NTNU Student Won Second Place at Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition

Buffet Crampon is a French manufacturer of woodwind musical instruments, including oboes, flutes, saxophones, English horns and bassoons; however, the company is perhaps most famous for their clarinets, as Buffet is the brand of choice for many professionals.

Prof. Chang Yu Kai, Prof. Hsiao Hsien Sheng Received Outstanding Research Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology

Chair Professor Hsiao Hsien Sheng of the Dept. of Technology Application and Human Resource Development and Chair Professor Chang Yu Kai of the Department of Physical Education are selected among nearly 1000 outstanding scholars as the awardee of the Outstanding Research Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2019. This is an embodiment of our solid research power.
