Alumni Tan Chee Lay, Choong Kam Ko received Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Award`

In order to recognize foreigners who have studied in Taiwan, the Study in Taiwan (SIT) Talent Database Project Office of the Ministry of Education has set up the first "Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Award". Recently, the list of awardees with outstanding achievement and contribution in the fields of academic research, industry & commerce, politics, humanities & communications and other which deserves to be recognized was revealed. Among 7 awardees, there are two alumni from NTNU. One is Choong Kam Kow in the field of Art and Tan Chee Lay in the academic field.

Alumna Shu-mei Shih Receives Outstanding Alumni Award Becomes Chair Professor

Prof. Shu-Mei Shih, graduated from the Department of English in 1982, now a Professor in Department of Comparative Literature of UCLA, is elected as the 18th outstanding alumni and also chair professor at the Department of Taiwan Culture, Language and Literature. She went back to NTNU on August 14th to receive the award from President Wu Cheng Chih. Vice President Ying Yung Hsiang, professors from College of Liberal Arts, English Department and the Department of Taiwan Culture, Language and Literature all came for this awarding ceremony.

Lin Shuo Chun from Music Dept. Won 1st Prize of 2018 Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition

The 9th International Antonín Dvořák Composition Competition was held in Cezch, Prague. Taiwanese musician again shines on the International stage. Taiwanese composer, age 22, not only received the 1st prize among junior but also For the best free composition among Junior and For the best Fuga.

Alumnus Yang Wins Superior Taste Award with High Quality Tea

Alumnus of Graduate Institute of Sport, Leisure and Hospitality management class of 2007 Yang, Cheng Hua, devoted himself into tea industry instead of teaching and handsome salary of a foreign company, received the 2 Star award of the Superior Taste Award, iTQi with his brand Scentea.

Father of Modern PrintMaking Liao Shiou Ping Receives Honorary PhD

At the graduation ceremony of the National Taiwan Normal University on June 23rd, President Wu Cheng Chih presented an art doctorate in honorary art to Chair Professor Liao Shiou Ping in recognition of his lifelong efforts in the creation, education, promotion of printmaking. As a promoter of modern printmaking in Taiwan, Dr. Liao introduced lots of foreign printmaking techniques and advocated the concepts and techniques of modern printmaking. Thus, Taiwan's printmaking art is full of creativity and modern multidisciplinary. He also cultivates countless printmaking artists. Dr. Liao is widely considered as Taiwan’s “Father of Modern Printmaking”.
