Global Alumni Relations: Where Do We Go from Here?
Developing meaningful relationships with international alumni is critical and more complicated. From border closures to novel ways of gathering virtually, COVID-19 presented unexpected challenges and new opportunities for global alumni engagement and international education. But where do we go from here? Universities across the world are evaluating their international alumni relations in a post-pandemic world. Offering insight into the activities of The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) as a case study for global alumni engagement and its role in comprehensive internationalization, this presentation considers a “future-back” approach in which long-term vision and goals illuminate near-term priorities and set a course forward. By providing a historical overview of international alumni relations at UT Austin and Texas Global’s framework for mission-driven engagement, plus recent developments and ambitious goals, this discussion will highlight strategies for pursuing data improvement, developing effective communications, leveraging intra-institutional partnerships, coordinating impactful events, and measuring success.
