The College of Music of National Taiwan Normal University is dedicated to excellence and its role in cultural and art service to the society. The Department of Music is the oldest music department in Taiwan, founded in 1946. Its alumni include many outstanding musicians and music educators, both at the collegiate and high school level. The Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology, founded in 2002, is distinctive for its research in both traditional and aboriginal music, while branching out to Austronesian music as well. It also recognizes the need to preserve all the audio and video information for future research, and has thus supported in establishment of the Music Digital Archive Center and the undergraduate program of Digital Video and Audio Program. The Graduate Institute of Performing Arts was founded in 2005, identifies the need for professionals in musical production and in art/music administration. The College also offers two programs—undergraduate program of performing arts and the graduate program in cultural and creative industries.
