The College of Sports and Recreation was officially founded in August of 2001 to meet the needs of changing times, and has become the sixth college established by the National Taiwan Normal University. The College of Sports and Recreation consists of Department of Physical Education, Department of Athletic Performance, Graduate Institute of Sports and Leisure Management. The Department of Physical Education has been established for more than 70 years, and was the first physical education department preparing physical education teachers. The master and doctoral programs also have a long excellent record of educating quality sports scientists and physical education teachers. Under the leadership and hard work of former deans, Dr. Iau-Hoei Chien, Dr. Chin- Lung Fang, Dr. Chih-Fu Cheng, Chih-Pin, Shih, Prof. Jiunn-Chern Jwo, Dr. Shao-Hsi Chang, Chih-Pin, Shih and current dean Jui-Fu Chen, as well as the entire dedication of faculty and students, the College has grown to be the thriving institution as the it is today.
With its long tradition of excellence, the College of Sports and Recreation is not only located in the center of Taipei city with convenient transportation systems, but also well equipped sports stadium and facilities providing a combination of both quality university faculties and educational resources. This high standard has helped the College to shine in the areas of school physical education, sports science, sports and leisure, and athletic competitions. This is one of the reasons why the College has been the leading choice for prospective students of physical education and recreation. Despite the exemplary standards and performance demonstrated by the College, it is nonetheless faced with the fast paced growth of information and international competitiveness. Thus, the College of Sports and Recreation must go on pursuing excellence to meet future demands.
The primary aim of the College is to become the leading institution in Taiwan, as well as to gain a respectable reputation within the international academic community. It is hoped that with the collective efforts and cooperation of the faculty and students, the college can make good use managementof its internal and external resources and technology, to focus both on the theoretical and practical aspects.
