The Spirit of Pioneer is the Spirit of Ocean Culture

The Spirit of Pioneer is the Spirit of Ocean Culture

NTNU general courses center invited the Da-wu tribe writer, Hsia ManLan Po-an, to talk and share about the aborigine and ocean culture spirit. He said, “ The spirit of pioneer and respect the nature are the spirit of ocean culture”. The host Chen Li-kuei mentioned at the end that culture was the lifeline of a tribe. It was hard to established, but easy to destroy. Rather cherish the precious culture, than protected the culture when it was endangered.

Hsia ManLan Po-an mentioned that the life of the people in Lanyu was totally related to skipjack and taros land. When the season of skipjack come, men shouldn’t afraid of danger and go fishing on the sea. They took upon the responsibility of the culture and the love to the ocean. Women should till the taros land.

Hsia ManLan Po-an indicated that everybody was advocating protecting the environment, but people in Lanyu were the practitioners. They lived peacefully with the nature. Ceremony and taboo were what they respect either. “The fresh is moving, the culture is moving”, he said. This sentence explained the responsibility and inheritance of the culture.
