Public Enemy Time Chen Tsui-Lian Talked about The White Terror Event
The human rights lecture “The control of society under The White Terror Event” held by department of civic education and leadership took place on November 18th. Professor Chen Tsui-lian from National Chengchi University graduate institute of Taiwan history was invited to talk about the “public enemy” period from The White Terror Event.
From the period of mobilization for the suppression of Communist rebellion, the Constitution was congealed. The legislation had been illegally expended, the unfairness and injustice had been postponed to no end. The rulers expended the authority with no limitations. After the Martial Law, the people underwent the military justice, “it was completely the military regime,” said professor Chen. It was just like the movie “Public Enemy”.
Professor Chen thought this kind of “afraid the enemy is next to you” atmosphere had hidden in the nowadays society in another way. The past incidents left a shadow in people’s mind. Everyone tried to protect themselves. The social model became to judge by utility and wealth. The real ideal disappeared. Until now, the problem was still unsolved; the future should still need to be rethink by the public.
