The education reforms in Taiwan had been putting into practice for years. Recently, it just underwent the problems of the 12- year mandatory education. What were the differences of education system between Taiwan and China? Would the teacher- training program students have a chance to teach in China in the future? Jiang Su Normal University professors called on NTNU for these questions on September 20th, hoping to find an answer for it.

NTNU Professor Cheng Yuan Ling from Department of Chinese shared the new direction of 12- year mandatory education. She listed the six important points in Chinese teaching materials, basic knowledge, structural theme, basic comprehension, deep analysis, critical thinking, and communication training. She expected students to learn through papers and forms. The deep analysis involved inferring and comparison, which she thought was the weakness of Taiwanese teachers.
Professor Wei Pen Ya from Jiang Su Normal University shared the changing of China education. They had three important transforming points; from teach to learn, from test to learning quality, and the teachers’ specializations. As for the questions that would students from Taiwan have a chance to teach in China, Professor Wei indicated that there were 800 thousands normal university bachelor degree students and 400 thousands master degree students graduated every year. However, there were only 250 thousands teachers needed provided by government each year. Director Ou yang Wen Chen from Jiang Su Normal University Academic office indicated that the teacher education system in China was the same in Taiwan. Every student could study for teachers. Only 20% of ㄋexaminees passed the teacher- certificated test every year.
Director Lin Chen Yung from NTNU Office of Teacher Education and Career Service indicated that most of the normal university in Asia had transformed to comprehensive universities in the past 20 years. NTNU had high passing rate of teacher- certificated test. There were actually more teachers wanted chances than the teacher education students in Taiwan. We should cultivate more outstanding teachers with our superiority of comprehensive university.
