Thai professor, NTNU English dept discuss future of English education
Preparing students for the real world should be a focus of English-language studies, said NTNU English department chair Liang Sun-chieh (梁孫傑) last Thursday as he met with a visiting delegation from Thailand.
Liang and other professors of the English Department received Professor Nikhom Limwachiranan of Thaksin University and other visitors to discuss the future of English education.
NTNU Professor Chou Chung-tien (周中天) called for closer ties with Thailand. NTNU currently hosts around 100 Thai students enrolled in the Mandarin Training Center, and now it's time for Taiwan to endeavor to learn from Thailand, as well, said Chou.
'We should treasure [interactions] with countries like Japan, Thailand, and Korea, which are also striving to learn English because we may face many of the same issues and share many of the same educational goals,' said Chou.
