The Ministry of Education said that according to a latest cross-country research, the quality of teacher training in Taiwan, including the selection of pre-service teacher education students, teacher’s assessment, teacher certifications and obtaining teaching positions. Among 17 countries, Taiwan is ranked number one, winning other advanced countries like Canada, Germany, Singapore and the United States.
Educational Researcher (ER) publishes scholarly articles that are of general significance to the education research community and that come from a wide range of areas of education research and related disciplines. Published nine times a year, ER aims to make major programmatic research and new findings of broad importance widely accessible.

Chang Ming Wen, director of the Faculty of Teacher Education and Arts Education at the Ministry of Education, said that Australian scholars published a paper in May on an internationally renowned social science journal "Educational Researcher". The paper examines the teaching quality of teachers in the math performance of students from 17 countries and converted it into rating scores. Taiwan is ranked first, Canada, Germany, Singapore and the United States comes after.
According to Prof. Huang Jia Li from the Office of Teacher Education and Careers Service, there are 10 indicators in this evaluation and Taiwan received full marks in 9 of them. The only indicator that didn’t get full marks is the one that set a standard for pre-service teacher education students because in Taiwan, there’s no grade threshold for those who want to become a teacher when entering college.
Prof. Huang said that it’s not easy to become a teacher in Taiwan. In addition to the teacher training program, students have to work as practice teacher at school. After that, they have to pass the teacher certification test to get the certification. Finally, only if they pass the paper test, interview and mock teaching can they become teachers at public schools.
