Chair Prof. Liao Ping Hui Talked about Internationalization

 
Prof. Liao Ping Hui is a Professor of Literary and Critical Studies and Chuan Lyu Endowed Chair in Taiwan Studies, UC San Diego. He is also a chair professor at the Department of Chinese as a Second Language. Recently, he came back to Taiwan and visited President Wu Cheng Chih, Vice President Sung Yao Ting, Ying Yung Hsiang with the accompany of Prof. Chien Ying Ying. They talked about international issues and exchange opportunities. President Wu Cheng Chih presented the letter of appointment for the next academic year to Prof. Liao.
 
Professor Liao received his Ph.D. degree in Comparative Literature from the Literature Department, UCSD in 1987. He works primarily in the fields of comparative literature, postcolonial theory, and cultural studies. He was a former director of the Humanities Department of the National Science Committee of the Executive Yuan, a chairman of the Comparative Literature Association of the Republic of China, a professor of Department of Foreign Languages & Literature at National Tsing Hua University. He is currently a Chuan Lyu Endowed Chair in Taiwan Studies and was appointed as a Chair Professor in he Department of Chinese as a Second Language in 2016.
 
Prof. Liao proposed that teachers in different countries can teach jointly. He said that, for example, the Music and Fine Arts departments of NTNU are well-known. President Wu said that NTNU has been working on Internationalization and has seen results. Still, there is room for improvement. Now we are promoting visiting tours to alumni living in foreign states, enterprise or art field so that students can explore a different world.
 
Vice President Sung expressed his gratitude that Prof. Liao was the main contact person for the NTNU Alumni Association at San Diago. he hopes that Prof. Liao can also take part in connecting NTNU and UCSD. Prof. Liao said that it is his pleasure to assist NTNU's students to study at UCSD.
