The Opening of Center of Astronomy and Gravitation at NTNU

 

Taiwan is astronomy talents and since the last academic year, NTNU has recruited several Yushan scholars to the Faculty of Science. A year later, the Center of Astronomy and Gravitation was established to develop cross-departmental research and attract talents in earth sciences, physics, and mathematics. the first director of the center Lin Feng Li, said that black hole research has attracted much attention in recent years. He hopes that through the establishment of the center, the domestic research gap can be bridged so that Taiwan will not be absent from international academic exchanges.

The Center of Astronomy and Gravitation was opened in January 12th,located at the 8th floor of the Science Education building in GongGuang campus. President Wu Cheng Chih, Dean Kwunmin Chen and Director Chu You Hua and many professors and administrators all attended the opening ceremony. According to President Wu, the College of Science has been a steady resource of academic research in NTNU with outstanding rankings of Science Citation Index. He hopes that with the new astronomy center, NTNU can collaborate with more foreign scholars.

Dean Chen also presented the Certificate of Appointment to Professor Lin as the Director of center. Three Yushan scholars are appointed different positions. Lee Yueh Ning from the Department of Earth Science is Deputy Director, Prof. Pu Hung Yi and Prof. Wu Ya Lin from the Department of Physics are Chief of General Science and Chief of Academic Group.

When speaking of the expectation of the center, Director Lin hopes to build regular academic events so that young scholars can publish paper and exchange ideas with fellow researchers. After the opening ceremony, Director Chu gave a keynote speech about the development of astronomy research in Taiwan. She hopes the knowledge of astronomy can be taught to younger students so that people can learn it at an early age.
