2021 Asia-Pacific Association for Teacher Education Annual Conference held Online

 

The 2021 Asia-Pacific Association for Teacher Education Annual Conference, organized by Taiwan Education Alliance and Asia Pacific Association for Teacher Education, was held online on November 26 and 27 under the topic of Shaping Future Teachers for Global Education Changes. The discussion is on policy formulation and educational research in different countries. Scholars and panelist are from 13 countries and over a thousand participants joined the online conference, which shows the concern of educators from all over the world.

 

There are cross-national panels, postgraduate research forum, new book launch Forum and rural education forum. Scholars from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia came to the discussion and talks about the impact from Covid-19 on teacher’s competency, teacher’s agency, teacher’s recruitment and teacher’s well-being.

 

The three cross-national panels are hosted by Dean Pan Hui Ling from College of Education of Tamkang University, Dean Yang Chiao Ling from College of Education National Kaohsiung University, and Professor Eisuke Saito from School of Education Culture & Society, Monash University respectively on teacher literacy and teacher’s professional growth.

 

In the three sessions of the Postgraduate Forum, postgraduates from Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, Bangladesh and other countries focused on how to improve the effectiveness of distance English teaching/learning under the epidemic and cultural shock, change of teachers’ role, job satisfaction, and whether robots can replace teachers as knowledge disseminators. Asia-Pacific Association for Teacher Education has become an important platform of higher education sharing under the pandemic.

The book Challenges of Curriculum Reform and Responses of Teacher Education: Asian Perspectives is a collective work of papers from scholars who have previously published on the forum.
