Creativity Says It All During the Cheerleaders' Competition

<p><font face="Arial">By Sabrina Lin and Wendy Lin<br /> Campus Reporters</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Freshmen showed their creativity and energy during the cheerleaders' competition at the National Taiwan Normal University's (NTNU) gym tonight.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;This is what a teenager should do.&nbsp; Study hard and play hard.&nbsp; I am so proud of our students for what they did out there,&quot; said President Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄), when he was approached for comments after the event.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Although it was a &quot;cheerleaders' competition,&quot; dancing and creativity became the focuses for adjudicators to decide the winner instead of athletic moves during participants' presentations because of safety concerns.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;We highlighted the creativity part instead of the real athletic moves during regular cheerleaders' performances to avoid potential injuries.&nbsp; But we do like to see some fresh ideas to be presented during the competition,&quot; said Tsai Hsiu-hua (蔡秀華), an associate professor for physical education from National Taiwan University who was also one of tonight's eight adjudicators.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Tsai said that the &quot;theme&quot; of a group of cheerleaders would be the most important key for adjudicators to decide their favorite team during the competition.&nbsp; The expression of cheerleaders would occupy 30 percent of the score chart, another 30 percent for creativity while basic cheerleaders' skills occupy another 30 percent and deign for the presentation occupy another 10 percent.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">The competition, participated by 22 teams from different department, began at 7pm and ended around 9:30pm.&nbsp; Department of Human Development and Family Education, Department of Music, Department of Arts and Department of Graphic Arts Communication were the final four and will be perform during the grand opening of NTNU's sports day on Friday, while the championship will be decided on Saturday.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial"></font>&nbsp;</p>
