Hard-working International Students Recognized

<p><font face="Arial">By Jocy Su<br /> Campus Reporter</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">A total of 62 National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) international students were encouraged and boosted by scholarships from three different offices at the International Lounge today.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;'Studying hard&rsquo; is the secret in common that I saw from them,&rdquo; said Chuang Kun-liang (莊坤良), dean for the Office of International Affairs.&nbsp; &ldquo;As an international student, there are a lot of challenges ahead but you will definitely grow up after you go through those challenges.&rdquo;</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Chuang made his remarks at the ceremony.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Among these 62 international students, 16 of them won the scholarship from the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission of the Cabinet, another three won the scholarship from the Hai Hwa Culture Foundation (海華文教基金會) and still another 43 of them won the scholarship from the Ministry of Education (MOE).</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Each of the 43 students who won MOE&rsquo;s scholarships will receive NT$60,000 (US$1,935) while the rest of the 19 students will receive NT$5,000 each from either the commission or the foundation.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Thai student Nipon Sasipanudej, who is now a second-year PhD student in Chinese, said that he would spend his scholarship on books.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;Books in Taiwan are not cheap at all.&nbsp; This amount of money would definitely help me on that,&rdquo; Sasipanudej said.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Meanwhile, Macau student Lei I-fan (李綺芬), a junior from the Department of Fine Arts, said that she would take good advantage of the NT$5,000 she received from the commission to pay parts of her tuition at NTNU.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial"></font>&nbsp;</p>
