3,497 NTNU Students Become Alumni

<p><font face="Arial">By Kevin Tang<br /> Campus reporter</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">A total of 3,497 students, including undergraduate and graduate students, became alumni after the commencement which was held at the gym on the main campus at 6:30pm today.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;Let&rsquo;s Fly&rdquo; was the theme of this year&rsquo;s commencement as paper planes were seen almost everywhere on the campus while Class 1970 graduate of English Department Charles Lin (林正祥), who is now head of Yoshine Helicopters&nbsp;Inc. (祐祥直升飛機股份有限公司), sponsored a real baby helicopter from Taichung to respond to the theme.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;These paper planes were designed to reflect the hope that our graduates will fly high after they walk out of NTNU today,&rdquo; said Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄), president for National Taiwan Normal University.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">In addition to regular awards or announcements for remarkable students during their studying at NTNU, special awards of courage and determination went to Gary Hung (洪甘霖) and Chiang Bing-shiun (蔣秉勳) of Department of Special Education for their insisting and continuing to carry on their studies although both of them are handicapped.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">In addition to graduates, their parents, family members and friends also crowded the gym and the auditorium where a screen was set up for those who would not access the gym because of the crowd.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">The commencement ended around 9pm, after Gou led graduates for their last campus tour.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial"></font>&nbsp;</p>
