Chair Prof. Liu Kuo Sung Becomes Member of American Academy

Liu, now 84, is universally honored as the earliest and most important advocate of modernist Chinese painting. As a chair professor in NTNU and an alumnus from the Department of Fine Arts, he is the first Taiwanese member in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the first Chinese painter that receive this honor. On October 14th, he came back to Wen Huei Hall, NTNU for the celebration ceremony. President Chang commended him for the honor and NTM Director Mr. Chen Jimin came with greeting.

Alumni Wilbur Lin was invited to conduct at El Salvador

The ProArte Association of El Salvador held the concert of Youth Symphony Orchestra which include the participation of guest conductor Wilbur Lin, the event took place from September 26th to 30th. Wilbur Lin, graduated from NTNU in 2011, currently reside in Indiana. During his stay, he will give master class, demonstration and help La Orquesta Sinfonica Juvenil de El Salvador, OSJ in the preparation of two concerts.

NTNU Alumnus Chang Yu An Wins 1st Place at Counduting Competition

The Alumni of Music Department of NTNU, Chang Yu An, won the 1st place of the 7th International Conducting Competition. This is the first world class award of Chang, which helps him pave a path to his career as a conductor. Chang said he didn’t expect to get the award before the competition. “In the future, I would like to attend more contests to gain experience.”

C. T. James Huang from English Dept. Becomes Academician

The 31st Academician of Academia Sinica was announced on July 7th. Professor C. T. James Huang, currently the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Linguistics at Harvard University as well as the alumni of the English Department of NTNU, is elected as one of the Academicians. Professor Huang is the tenth alumni from NTNU receiving this honor.

Chiu-yu Tseng from English Dept. Becomes Fellow of ISCA

Dr. Chiu-yu Tseng, currantly Chair of Institute of Linguistics in Academia Sinica, is elected Fellow of International Speech Communication Association (abbreviated. ISCA). With her contributions to prosody understanding through corpus-based analysis and modeling, Dr. Tseng is the first female scholar and the second Taiwanese receiving this distinguished fellowship. The new fellows are invited to the annual event in San Francisco from September 8th to 12th.
