Huang Chun-chieh Said University is Not Job Training Center
Was the university education training for job or for gaining knowledge? “General feature courses and creative teaching achievement presentation” invited National Taiwan University dean of college of liberal arts Huang Chun-chieh to give a speech on September 9th. He thought that the specialty courses were important but the general courses spirit education was more important. In addition, professors and teaching assistants from each department displayed the superior NTNU general courses achievement.
Huang Chun-chieh indicated that the importance of university education was often been neglected. Students selected courses for preparing the future job. He noted four problems in university now. First, education departed from reality. Second, students chose department for the long distance thinking, education was only for working. Third, students’ attitude took education as the preparation for job; especially the famous university. Forth, university became the department of knowledge, promoting cooperation with enterprise brought Taiwan University education into United States University “commercialization” crisis.
Some students indicated that through discussing with students from different departments, got in touch with different aspect of viewpoint and knowledge, showed that university general education could train students think independently. Although the educational system was in a contradictory situation, professor Huang Chun-chieh still insisted to tell NTNU student the specialty was important, the spirit education was more important.
