Department of Civic Education and Leadership Spread the Love to Myanmar
Myanmar Eden International Volunteer Camp reached the forth year this year. NTNU Department of Civic Education and Leadership teachers and students went to Myanmar in summer, cultivated the local teachers in the local Mandarin teaching school, donated secondhand books, and accompanied seniors. They shared the experiences and feedback on October 7th at Cheng building.
Professor Yen Miao-kuei led the students with passion of service to Lashio, May Myo, Myamar. The started of the plan was her six graduated students wanted to become the international volunteer in 2008 and got the contact with the local. “Will you come back next year?” the simple question the local asked at the end of the activity gave her a great impact. Since then, professor Yen continuously gave the service and made her thought that was the service for the experience or to match others needs. Whenever she felt tired with the plan, this was what kept she moving on.
Professor Yen indicated that even what we did will not make the local school changed immediately, the training we gave and the books we donated would help them gradually. We would let them know they were not alone.
Students shared their experiences with the clips they made. “I thought I was there to teach, but I was there to learn.” ”I learned what is satisfaction, what is simple. Although they were lack of resources, they still lived their life optimistically and seriously.”
