Su Da-tung Made The World Hear The Voice of Taiwan
The unique voice in Taiwan, broke the regular rule in music, created a new style, and spread it to the world. Su Da-tung, the musician both composer and arranger, shared his experiences of composing on October 13th in NTNU.
Su Da-tung indicated that he couldn’t study and didn’t like to study; therefore he walked on the road of music. He learned the classical music, traditional Chinese music, jazz, and entered UC Berkeley, the department of music to study composing. He expected to use his creativity and bring the Taiwanese traditional music to the world stage. He emphasized that the music should combine with the self-element. His self-element was the Taiwanese element. Well understanding our own culture, he wasn’t simply creating; he created the voice of Taiwan.
“You can buy the technique, but you can’t buy the talent,” said Su Da-tung. This was the year we competed with our originality and thoughts. He encouraged the audiences to find our passion and work hard for it.
