Mandarin Teaching Research Forward To Outstanding University

 Mandarin teaching was one of the programs of NTNU forwarded to outstanding university plan. NTNU Mandarin and technology research center held the counseling committee meeting on December 20th. The topic was language acquisition basic and behavior research. Professor Li Ping from United States Pennsylvania State University language technology research center was invited to interchange the experience of academic teaching on Mandarin.

The research team combined education, cognitive psychology, and Mandarin teaching and learning development scholars. Took Mandarin learners as the target, tested the ability on listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to analyze Mandarin learners learning progress and compare the result to the native learners. Discussed how the foreigners learned Mandarin and came up with a better way to teach.

The manager of graduate institute of teaching Chinese as a second language Tseng Chin-chin targeted on the Chinese pronunciation tone part, which the foreigners considered the hardest part to conquer. Professor Chen Hsueh-chi from department of education psychology and counseling targeted on the Chinese character structure. He studied foreigner’s Chinese structure learning progress and compared with Taiwanese students.

The meeting was to discover a better way to teach Mandarin and brought NTNU to the outstanding university.
