NTNU Department of Design Officially Established
NTNU Department of Design held the opening ceremony on September 4th at the department office building at No. 6 Ln. 5, Qing Tian Street. Many experts from design field came and greeted. Principal Chang Kuo En indicated that with the foundation of Department of Fine Arts, the works should be more practical, to show the features of Department of Design.
Department of Design was established this August. It combined the resources of Department of Visual Design, Graduate Institute of Design, and Department of Industrial Education interior design group. Besides developed the visual arts and media communication and product design, it targeted on training the business designer with cross-field design ability. NTNU would employ the teacher with practical experience and theory in the future.
NTNU former vice Principal Lin Pan Sung, the President of Taiwan Graphic Design Association, design magazine publisher, and many other experts in the design field attended. Director of Department of Design Hsu Ho Chieh indicated that creativity development and humanity aesthetic perception were the most important targets of Department of Design. He hoped to divide the class for students with different specialty, for them to develop their own skills. The dean of College of Fine Arts hoped to establish Ph. D for Department of Design in the future, to build up the complete system of design education.
