The Publication of “Global Identities, Local Voices- Amerasia Journal at 40 Years Volume”
English and American Literature, Association of the Republic of China held the first publication of the new book “Global Identities, Local Voices- Amerasia Journal at 40 Years Volume” at NTNU Department of English on the 14th of December. Speacial researchers Tan Te Hsing and Li Yu Cheng from Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica were invited to talk about the book. Many translators were invited as well. The publication showed the research results of Asian American literature in Taiwan.
<Amerasia Journal> were established in 1970 in the United States. It was the most profound outstanding periodical with the longest history in the Asian American literature research. “Global Identities, Local Voices” was a great English translation project edited by the former editor of <Amerasia Journal> Liang Chih Ying, the inaugurator of <Amerasia Journal> Don T. Nakanishi, and the researchers from academia Sinica Tan Te Hsing. It symbolized the international transforming of the <Amerasia Journal>.
In the translator list of the book, Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica had the highest rate in translating each unit. Most translators were graduated from NTNU Department of English. Tan Te Hsing indicated that no matter to view from the profession or translation, the book got a very good team to make it. He expected <Amerasia Journal> could showed the Asian American literature research result in Taiwan, strived for the right to speak of Taiwan in the Mandarin world, and for Mandarin to be in the lead of other languages.
The president of the English and American Literature, Association of Republic of China Chang Hsu Li mentioned that the Asian American literature research played an important role in the Taiwan academic research. The team had formed officially and had great research result. The publication of the new book would hold three publication meetings in Taiwan. The following publication meetings would hold at National Chung Hsing University and National Chung Cheng University.
