The honored professor Inuhiko Yomota from Japan Meiji Gakuin University who was known for his study and research in the world movie history, east Asia movie critic, and cultural study, called on Taiwan this month. NTNU Department of Taiwanese Languages and Literatures invited Professor Inuhiko Yomota to talk about the topic of “Joy of Melodrama- Why does the romantic story between boys and girls in the movie always happens on the bridge”.

Professor Inuhiko had published nearly 100 books. The lecture was the essence of his study in all his research. “Why does the romantic story between boys and girls in the movie always happens on the bridge?” he asked. He talked about the melodrama by playing the scene of the love story on the bridge from different countries. He pointed out that the “bridge” was the symbol of connecting the story, separating the now and past, and the coincidence in life as well. Professor  Inuhiko supported his idea and words by analyzing the typical movies from different countries, for example, the famous series movies “007”.

The lecture received a great response from the audiences. The Director of Department of Taiwanese Languages and Culture Lin Fang Mei and the host Professor Chuang Chia Ying mentioned that beside the “bridge”, “tree”, “train station”, and “post office” were also the symbol of the melodrama movies. Professor Inuhiko study and lecture provided the audience a different angle to see the movie and appreciated it.
