HK Philanthropist Tin Ka-ping's Name Is Recognized

<p><font face="Arial">By Sabrina Lin<br /> Campus Reporter</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Hong Kong entrepreneur and philanthropist Tin Ka-ping's (田家炳) passionate and generosity in education were recognized and affirmed when the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) decided to rename its Extension Division for Continuous Education as &ldquo;School of Tin Ka-ping&rdquo; (田家炳學苑) this afternoon.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;He (Tin) would sell his own mansion in Hong Kong for sponsoring education-related funds.&nbsp; This is the spirit that we admire,&quot; said Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄), president for NTNU.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Tin was planning to participate in the grand opening ceremony this afternoon but he eventually had to cancel his appearance due to health concerns.&nbsp; He will be returning to Hong Kong on Monday (Nov. 19) night as scheduled.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">In the meantime, Gou also announced that NTNU will establish a scholarship upon the NT$10 million, which was donated by Tin, to help more students from poor families to study abroad so Tin's spirit can be honored as well.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial"></font>&nbsp;</p> <p><font face="Arial"></font>&nbsp;</p>
