Hong Kong entrepreneur and philanthropist Tin Ka-ping's (田家炳) passionate and generosity in education were recognized and affirmed when the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) decided to rename its Extension Division for Continuous Education as “School of Tin Ka-ping” (田家炳學苑) this afternoon.

"He (Tin) would sell his own mansion in Hong Kong for sponsoring education-related funds. This is the spirit that we admire," said Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄), president for NTNU.

Tin was planning to participate in the grand opening ceremony this afternoon but he eventually had to cancel his appearance due to health concerns. He will be returning to Hong Kong on Monday (Nov. 19) night as scheduled.

In the meantime, Gou also announced that NTNU will establish a scholarship upon the NT$10 million, which was donated by Tin, to help more students from poor families to study abroad so Tin's spirit can be honored as well.
