International Poster Exhibition at Art Gallery of NTNU
As Taipei city becoming the World Design Capital in 2016, the government has been promoting the creativity spirit of Taipei. Taiwan Poster Design Association is the promoter, who held an exhibition that invited designers from many countries to design poster. From November 28th to December 3rd, the exhibition was held in the art gallery of NTNU.
Taiwan Poster Design Association is the first design association that focused on poster creation. It was founded in 1991 by 4 alumni from the Department of Fine Arts, NTNU. The association was active in delivering speeches in Taiwan and abroad, holding exhibitions, publishing books, joining international competitions, starting events and cultivating skilled designers. In 2001, it became a member of Icograda, a world body for design.
In this event, there are designers from South Korea, the United States, Japan, Germany and Switzerland. Through sharing the design ideas and talks, we can know more about different countries and how they interpret creativity. In the poster, we can see the history of cities, modern creation and social conscience,
President of Taiwan Poster Design Association Lin Chun-Liang said that although the design of a city may be influenced by political power, designers can express their ideas to construct the space for design. He emphasized that by interacting with people in person can a designer find his or her initial spirit as a designer.
In order to promote graphic design in Taiwan, the association not only holds exhibition, but invited world-known designers as speakers. Hungarian painter, printmaker, graphic designer István Orosz said that poster is one of the most important thing in 20th century. In the 21st century, a time with all sorts of media, now the importance of keeping the skill of poster design is highlighted.
Before Taipei become the World design capital, the idea of design has changed and transformed. It is hoped that design can help brining innovation of the city. Professor Balk Kum Nam from the College of Art at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul said that Seoul has become a member of World Design Capital in 2012, now that Taipei has joined, he is glad to welcome a better future in the field of design.
