The Concert of Celebration by Music Dept.

To celebrate the 70th birthday of NTNU, students, conductors, singers, orchestra and choir from the Graduate Institute of Popular Music and Music Department carried out a performance on June 3rd.
The Music Department was established in June 1946. With 70 years of history, this is where every important figure of the music of Taiwan was raised and learned. NTNU is home to many music teachers and has nourished performers and scholars with alumni all over the world. In 2015, the Graduate Institute of Popular Music and Music Department was set up with an aim to bring new motion to the market.
Guitar player and golden melody awards winner, Ken Chou, is now a teacher at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Chou is the student from GIPM. He has studied oversea and more than 10 years of working experience. The reason for him to come to NTNU is to gain academic knowledge.
Chinn Horng Nanette Chen, the director of the Music Department said that students are different from what she was as a student. She said that students are now more open-minded. They have to be prepared for the future and don’t be afraid of failure. She believed a NTNU student can become the most shining star in the workplace.
APO Ching-Hsin Hsu, Orchestra Director at the National Taiwan Normal University told us that when she was in NTNU, the orchestra was just founded. It took such a long time to practice and be good enough to perform. There were few orchestra members with unmatched playing skills. Prof. Hsu has returned to NTNU for many years and witnessed the improvement of the Music Department. She said that compared to students of her times, students now are professional players so that the orchestra can do lot more in terms of the difficulty and the depth of the piece. Prof. Hsu hopes that students can do what they want to do the most in their lives and to live their life to the fullest.
