Chinese Taipei Tug of War Women Bring 4 Gold Medals in a Row
Chinese Taipei Tug of War Women’s team attended the World Games at Poland and bring back 1 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. On the finalist against China on July 29th, the Taiwan team won and achieve the 4th victory in a row. President Tsai Ing-wen met the girls from Chinese Taipei on August 2nd. She shook hands with them and said that the callus on their hands is prettier than the gold medal.
The 10th World Games was held in Wrocław, Poland. 67 athletes from Taiwan joined 14 kinds of competition and won 1 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. In the women Tug of War’ Taiwan defeated the teams from South Africa, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherlands by 2:0 and finally, China.
The female team is composed of the tug of war team of National Taiwan Normal University and students from Taipei Jingmei Girls Highs School. The team has brought back gold medals since 2005 in Germany, 2009 in Kaohsiung, 2013 in Columbia until this year in Poland. In addition to tug-of-war, the Taiwan team received a silver in Korfball. What’s more impressive is the first time for an Asian team to get a silver medal.
According to President Tsai’s facebook post, she encouraged the outstanding athletes to keep up with their performances and work hard to improve. The Universiade is about to begin soon and President Tsai hopes that all Taiwanese athletes can work to their fullest.
