Award Given to NTNU for Taking Good Care of Forgiven Students
NTNU was awarded as the excellent school of foreign student counseling by the Ministry of Education on October 11th. Associate Professor Chen Jia-Ling from the Division of Preparatory Programs and Administrator Alice Tu from OIA received an honor award of excellent member.
Huang Chi Yo, Associate Vice President of OIA received the award representing NTNU. In year 2016, 6135 foreign students came to NTNU to study. NTNU International Youth was established, mentor system was introduced, Mandarin courses and talks about working in Taiwan, given by alumni were provided. There are associations for Hong Kong and Macau students, cultural events were held. Officers from the Immigration Agency came to the campus to help students with their ARCs. Alice Tu from OIA led the NTNU International Youth for better service. She is also in charge of many creative events like discovering the good of Taiwan. What’s more, Tu takes part in revolutionize the scholarship program of foreign students and the training of foreign staff on ceremonies.
According to the Ministry of Education, in year 2016, there are 116,416 foreign students coming to Taiwan, which accounts for 8.89% of total students. The number keeps growing year by year. Thanks to the front line operators, the students can rest assured and focus on their studies.
Associate Professor Chen Jia Ling accompanied the oversea students to a competition on Taiwan Public Television and help organized events about career searching.
To help higher education institutes to recruit foreign student to Taiwan, the Ministry of Education has been actively promoting the plan for South bound policy talents. All universities and administrators should work together with an aim to build a friendly environment for oversea students. When people think of Taiwan, they will know that Taiwan is idea for higher education in East Asia.
