NTNU ranked 15th best university for education degrees
National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) was ranked 15th for the subject of education in the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings table, an improvement of seven places on last year.
The result is the best in Taiwan and second highest in Asia, after the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the survey showed.
The ranking uses 13 performance indicators in five areas, such as teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. NTNU's performance improve din all five areas this year.
Wu Cheng-chih (吳正己), president of NTNU, said universities do not rely on rankings, which cannot possibly reflect the overall performance of a university. However, he added that such rankings can showcase the specialties of institutes and boost international academic exchange.
Wu said NTNU will continue to cultivate interdisciplinary leaders and hopes to serve as a role model for students and other universities.
Since the 2018 rankings, education, law and psychology have not been included in the Times Higher Education social sciences, but instead been presented as separate rankings. The 2019 education ranking is also expanded to include 428 universities, up from 100 the previous year.
Stanford University tops this year's education table for the second consecutive year, while Harvard University remains at the 2nd place. HKU stayed at the 4th and the Chinese University of Hong Kong rises two places to joint 18th.
