VR National Team by NTNU Prof. Joins 2020 Ars Electronica festival in Austria Remotely

 

 

A national VR team led by Prof. Huang Hsin Chian from the Department of Design and a collection of 12 Taiwan-based VR/AR works are presented in the 2020 Ars Electronica festival in Austria.

The Press Conference of Ars Electronica Garden was held by September 10th by the College of Arts on September 10th. Many guests attended the conference, including the Dean Chao Huei Ling, Vice President for International Affairs Liu Hsiang Lin, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts Pai Shih Ming, Director of the Austrian Office Taipei Mr. Roland Rudorfer, Chairperson of Taiwan Creative Content Agency Ting Hsiao Ching Director Lee Yu Lin of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and co-curator Chen Chung Hsien. There’s a VR Demo that allows the attendants to try what the Ars Electronica festival is like.

Chairperson Ting said that this year, Taiwanese artists have attended Cannes Film Festival, International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art of the Venice Biennale. These astonishing works of art are best opportunities for the world to know the abundant energy of art creation from Taiwan.  

 

Director Roland Rudorfer said that Ars Electronica Festival was first started in 1979 and now it’s one of the most important expo of new media art in the world. The works of Taiwanese team is about the history, the nature, and travel hotspot in Taiwan, brining local culture to the world.

The curator Prof. Huang said that the world is suffering in pandemic. This is also a chance for Taiwan. The “national team” of VR participated the festival with the theme “In Kepler’s Gardens” and viewers will feel like they are in Taiwan when they see the artwork through VR.
