NTNU Statement on MTC Student Accident

<p><font face="Arial">Mr. Michael J. Toy, an American student at Mandarin Training Center, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), was wounded today in Taipei at around 11:50a.m. by a man presumably suffering mental disorder. Mr. Toy was on his way to school when he was suddenly attacked and stabbed on his right arm. He was immediately taken to the Tri-service General Hospital by his teacher and friends, where he received an emergency surgery.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">Mr. Toy arrived in Taiwan to learn Chinese in August and is about to complete his first term of study.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">The teacher and staff members of NTNU are keeping him company at the hospital. Mr. Toy is reported to be in a stable condition. His injury is believed not to have any lasting effect on his movement.</font></p>
<p><font face="Arial">Mr. Toy, like all the other foreign students at MTC, is covered by a mandatory accident insurance program to cover the necessary medical expenses.</font></p>
