Prof. Apex Pang-soong Lin Awarded Honor Laureate in 2022 CIIPE

CIIPE was co-founded in 1979 by CSU faculty and designers Phil Risbeck and John Sorbie, and Northern Colorado artist Bob Coonts. It serves as a unique educational resource allowing graphic design and art majors to work directly with designers study the work closely with current CSU graphic design faculty and gain valuable career experience preparing and installing the exhibition. Unlike other international design competitions that publicly invite participants to submit works, the committee of CIIPE sends invitations to designers worldwide to participate with their latest works. Its unique way of running makes Colorado a mecca for poster design with more than 3000 posters from renowned artists.

Every year, CSU’s Gregory Allicar Museum of Art highlights the work of a selected CIIPE honor laureate. This year’s featured artist, Apex Pang-soong Lin—a Taiwanese designer—will give an artist talk at the GAMA and his work will be featured in the museum’s Works on Paper Gallery. On the stage of the reception of CIIPE, the flags of the United States and the flag of the Honor Laureate and other flags are presented as backdrops. The flag of R.O.C was seen by all audiences when Professor Lin gave his speech on stage.

Not only that, CIIPE also broke the pattern of multiple judges negotiating and producing a list of winners. The committee first elected a global design achiever and awarded the title of 'Honor Laureate' who will serve as the sole judge of the Biennale as a demonstration of the absoluteness of art. The Honor Laureate must introduce the winning works and fully discuss the judging criteria during the opening speech of the exhibition after selecting the winning works. In his speech, Lin said that “A good poster should deliver the meaning of social concern, diverse culture and guidance for future generations.” He is also invited to give a keynote speech with the topic of hometown Taiwan to introduce his personal stories and inspiration of works. Lin’s solo exhibition will be held in the art center of Colorado State University from September 21 to October 18.
