Bridging Music and Technology: NTNU College of Music and College of Technology and Engineering Foster Cross-College International Exchange
National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) College of Technology and Engineering and College of Music recently organized a remarkable cross-college international exchange event, blending the essence of musical arts and technological innovation. This event, hosted with gratitude by Ching-Min Cheng, the dean of the College of Technology and Engineering and Chia-Hong Drapal Liao the dean of the College of Music, warmly welcomed Professor Peter Tornquist, the dean of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore, along with his students. Led by Director Wen-Pin Hope Lee of the Digital Technology Research Center of Asian Popular Music, the event facilitated a unique cross-college exchange.
On the afternoon of August 10th, Professor Wen-Pin Hope Lee led a delegation from the Singapore Conservatory of Music on visits to the Department of Music, the College of Technology and Engineering, the Graduate Institute of Performing Arts, the Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology, and the College of Music. Ching-Min Cheng, the dean of the College of Technology and Engineering and Professor Chuan-Hsi Liu of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering warmly welcomed and guided them on tours of the electrical engineering and mechanical engineering labs, elevating the academic exchange to new heights.
Apart from the academic exchange in the field of music, it's worth highlighting the visit to the 4th-floor Computational Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory in the College of Technology and Engineering, led by Distinguished Professor Chen-Chien James Hsu This laboratory is dedicated to AI technology development, particularly in applications related to care or mobile robots and mechanical arms. Additionally, the delegation visited the 5th-floor Educational Robotics Center, which focuses on the development of AI-human interaction technology applied to humanoid robots.
The micro-manufacturing laboratory and laser manufacturing laboratory of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering also captured attention. Led by Distinguished Professor Shun-Tong Chen the tour visited the micro-manufacturing laboratory, while the laser manufacturing laboratory was personally guided by Distinguished Professor Tien-Li Chang showcasing the College of Technology and Engineering's leadership in the field of precision manufacturing and advanced production.
This cross-college exchange not only facilitated mutual learning and observation in the realm of music academia but also highlighted the complementarity with the field of technology, embodying National Taiwan Normal University's commitment to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
