U.S. News & World Report ranks NTNU Among World’s Best
National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has secured a remarkable 7th place globally in the field of education, according to the latest 'U.S. News & World Report' ranking of the world's best universities. This achievement places NTNU alongside prestigious institutions such as Oxford University and University College London. Known for its long-standing commitment to education and educational research, NTNU has significantly elevated Taiwan's academic presence on the international stage through its dedication and excellence in these fields.
The ranking evaluates the academic research performance and reputation of universities worldwide, using multiple criteria such as research output, number of published papers, and citations. Last year, NTNU was ranked 9th in education and educational research. This year, it improved by two places to 7th in the world for normalized citation impact, 7th for the number of papers in the top 10% of citations, and 10th for total citations. Additionally, the proportion of its papers in the top 10% of citations ranks fifth globally.
The data for the U.S. News ranking system is provided by Clarivate Analytics, sourced from the InCites database for the past five years (2018-2022). These results highlight NTNU's sustained efforts and effectiveness in the field of education, positioning it alongside the world’s top universities.
Robust and Diverse Educational Research
Founded in 1922 as Taihoku Higher School, NTNU has undergone significant transformations throughout its history. In 1946, it became Taiwan Provincial Normal College with a mission to train secondary school teachers. By 1955, it was reorganized into Taiwan Provincial Normal University, and in 1967 it assumed its current name, National Taiwan Normal University. Since 1994, NTNU has evolved into a comprehensive university. The dedicated efforts of its alumni, faculty, and students have produced numerous outstanding talents and significantly amplified Taiwan’s educational influence on the global stage.
NTNU has excelled in educational research and talent cultivation. Currently, five education-related journals published by NTNU are indexed in the Taiwan Social Sciences Citation Index (TSSCI), and eleven are included in the Scopus database, reflecting the institution’s strong academic reputation. The faculty's research productivity and the high quality of their publications have made NTNU the top institution in Taiwan for educational research.
NTNU’s School of Education hosts several prominent research centers, such as the ' Chinese Language and Technology Center,' the ' Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Sciences,' and the 'Social Emotional Education and Development Center.' In addition to its 7th place ranking in the U.S. News Global University Rankings for education, NTNU also ranked first in Taiwan and 27th globally in the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject for education. This marks the 11th time NTNU has been ranked among the top 50 worldwide by QS, with its ranking stabilizing within the top 30 over the past four years, showcasing significant improvements in academic reputation, citation rates, and employer reputation.
