HUFS Strengthens Academic Bonds with NTNU on Visit

President Jeong-woon of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) visited NTNU on July 3, further deepening the cooperative relationship between the two institutions.

Accompanied by Yi-Ta Chen, Second Secretary of the International and Cross-strait Education Department of the Ministry of Education, President Park led a delegation that included International Director Jaewan Yang. Their visit was a return visit following Vice President Yao-ting Song’s visit to HUFS last year to further discuss the status of student exchange programs and the potential for dual degree programs in Chinese Language Studies.

Since its establishment in 1954, HUFS has been a leader in language education and research in South Korea, offering courses in 45 foreign languages. The university’s '7+1 Study Abroad Program' encourages students to study overseas. HUFS is ranked 651-660 in the QS 2025 World University Rankings and is within the top 16% and top 8% in South Korea according to EduRank and UniRank, respectively.

Collaboration between NTNU and HUFS began in 2007 and has grown stronger over the years. Last year's visit by Vice President Song further deepened the academic exchange between the two institutions. In May, a delegation from the HUFS Institute of Chinese Literature visited NTNU’s College of Liberal Arts, hosted by Dean Wen-Wei Shiu and Contract Instructor Yoo-Seon Hong.

With support from the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, NTNU will establish a Korean Studies Research Center in August, with Instructor Yoo-Seon Hong as director, marking a significant milestone in NTNU's efforts in Korean language education.

Due to the prevailing heatwave and afternoon thunderstorms, NTNU's Smile Ambassadors guided the delegation on a tour of NTNU’s indoor attractions, such as the historic Administration Buildings and the plaster-cast relief of the Ludiovisi Throne acquired by the university from the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Following the campus tour, President Cheng-Chih Wu, along with International Director Yi-De Liu, Associate Dean of the College of International Studies and Social Sciences Jia-Fei Hong, and Korean Language Program Professors En-Mei Chin and Yoo-Seon Hong, engaged in in-depth discussions with the delegation. They covered the current status of student exchange programs, the potential for dual degree programs in Chinese Language Studies, and cooperation in Korean language education.

This visit further bolstered academic exchange and cooperation between the two universities, paving the way for future collaboration.
