NTNU Grows Global Reach with Recruitment Drive in the Philippines
NTNU has intensified its efforts to attract top international talent, reporting a 14.2% increase in international student enrollment for the 2024 fall semester. This surge is largely attributed to the university's strategic promotion of English-medium instruction (EMI) courses and a broad international recruitment campaign. Most recently, from September 24 to 28, Associate Vice President for International Affairs Hsiu-Mei Hsieh, along with International Student Advising Managers Chelsea Yang and Sing-Yee Tan, visited the Philippines to participate in the 2024 Taiwan Higher Education Fair and strengthen partnerships with local educational institutions.
As part of NTNU’s internationalization strategy, the university offers 886 EMI courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, meeting the academic needs of global students. NTNU has extended its recruitment efforts beyond the Philippines, previously visiting Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand, where it engaged with nearly 50,000 international students interested in studying in Taiwan.
The visit to the Philippines specifically sought to attract Filipino students, given the country’s strong English proficiency, and to foster deeper academic exchanges between the two nations. The 2024 Taiwan Education Fair in the Philippines, organized by the Taiwan Education Center, provided a platform to showcase Taiwan's higher education resources to leading high schools and universities. NTNU representatives also visited notable institutions such as the Philippine Science High School, the University of the Philippines Diliman, and the Technological University of the Philippines, which are well-regarded for their academic excellence, particularly in engineering and science fields.
Approximately 600 students and parents attended the fair, where NTNU introduced its rich EMI course offerings and academic resources. These face-to-face interactions allowed Filipino students to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the opportunities available at NTNU. Additionally, NTNU representatives visited the University of Santo Tomas to further strengthen institutional ties. The delegation was warmly received by school representatives and alumni, some of whom are now part of NTNU’s faculty.
Looking forward, NTNU plans to continue its internationalization efforts by participating in more global education fairs, expanding its international student recruitment network, and strengthening academic exchanges and collaborations with institutions worldwide, aiming to attract more global talent to Taiwan.
