Leading Minds Gather at NTNU Geometric Variational Theory Workshop
The Computational Astrophysics and Geometric Gravity (iCAG) project at NTNU recently hosted an international mini-workshop focused on cutting-edge topics in geometric analysis, including geometric variational problems and measure theory. Held from September 24 to 25, 2024, the event brought together leading scholars and emerging researchers at the College of Science campus to foster collaboration and advance research in these specialized fields.
Jointly organized by Professors Chun-Chi Lin and Ulrich Menne from NTNU's Department of Mathematics, along with Professor Yoshihiro Tonegawa from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the workshop featured several prominent speakers. Notably, Thierry DePauw, formerly of the University of Paris and now a guest professor at Westlake University, shared his significant contributions to geometric measure theory. Other speakers included Associate Professors Shinya Okabe (Tohoku University), Keisuke Takasao (Kyoto University), Martin Man Chun Li (Chinese University of Hong Kong), Assistant Professors Yuki Tsukamoto (Tokyo University of Science), and Xiaodan Zhou (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology), representing a dynamic cohort of mid-career and emerging scholars.
NTNU’s own faculty members, Professors Daniel Spector and Ting-Jung Kuo, along with PhD student Hsin-Chuang Chou, also gave presentations. The workshop attracted postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and visiting scholars from National Taiwan University and the National Center for Theoretical Sciences, fostering discussions on related topics and potential research collaborations.
With over 60 participants, including students led by NTNU's Professor Yu-Lin Chang, the workshop provided a valuable platform for idea exchange and collaboration. It also offered students the chance to engage directly with world-class scholars, enhancing NTNU’s academic visibility on a global scale.
