NTNU and Leadtek Deepen Ties for Deep Learning Innovation

NTNU and Leadtek Research Inc. have joined forces to create the Deep Learning Joint Laboratory, an initiative designed to advance the integration of deep learning technologies in education and industry. This partnership aims to bridge academic research and practical applications, driving innovation and industrial progress in Taiwan.

The laboratory, inaugurated on November 28, marks a significant development in industry-academia collaboration. Representatives from both organizations attended the opening ceremony, including NTNU Executive Vice President Kwun-Min Chen, Dean of the College of Industry Academia Innovation (CIAI) Wen-Chung Kao, and Leadtek Chairman Kun Shan Lu.

Advancing Artificial Intelligence Applications

The Deep Learning Joint Laboratory provides a platform for research and development in artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on integrating GPU-powered solutions into various sectors. Executive Vice President Chen highlighted the laboratory’s role in driving technological innovation and supporting Taiwan’s industrial evolution.

Chairman Lu noted that Leadtek’s expertise in GPU technology, cultivated through a long-term partnership with NVIDIA, forms the backbone of the laboratory’s capabilities. Combined with NTNU’s academic expertise, the collaboration aims to develop AI applications in areas such as education, healthcare, and manufacturing, contributing to Taiwan’s digital transformation.

Bridging Education and Industry

Dean Wen-Chung Kao emphasized CIAI’s commitment to talent development, describing the laboratory as both a training hub for students and a resource for professionals. The partnership between NTNU and Leadtek has already led to the creation of programs designed to equip students with practical skills aligned with industry needs. “The Deep Learning Joint Laboratory connects theoretical research with practical applications, preparing students and professionals to address emerging technological challenges,” Kao said.

Key Objectives

The laboratory’s objectives include:
• Research and Development: Exploring technologies in fields such as image recognition and natural language processing to support innovation and automation.
• Industry Integration: Applying deep learning techniques to industries including manufacturing, healthcare, and education to enhance efficiency and capabilities.
• Workforce Development: Offering training and practical opportunities to build expertise in deep learning technologies.
• Sustainable Collaboration: Establishing ongoing knowledge exchange between academia and industry.
• Promoting Education: Organizing workshops and lectures to broaden understanding and use of deep learning technologies in educational institutions.

Strengthening Taiwan’s Technological Leadership

The Deep Learning Joint Laboratory reflects NTNU and Leadtek’s shared goal of enhancing Taiwan’s position in the global AI sector. Through targeted research, skill development, and the integration of advanced technologies, the partnership aims to contribute meaningfully to Taiwan’s digital and industrial progress. The initiative supports collaboration and innovation through partnerships to address technological challenges and advance AI capabilities.
