History Department Partners with Taiwan Historica for Academic Collaboration and Resource Sharing

To promote the effective utilization of academic resources and deepen the development of Taiwanese social and cultural education, the History Department of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) formalized a collaboration agreement with Taiwan Historica on January 10. This partnership focuses on archival collections, academic seminars and publications, internship opportunities, talent exchange, and shared facilities. Together, the two institutions aim to advance research and education in Taiwanese history.

Distinguished guests at the signing ceremony included Professor NG Yau-Nang William, Chair of the NTNU History Department; Honorary Professor Wu Wen-Hsing; Professor Chen Chien-Wen, Associate Chair; and Professors Lin Hsin-yi and Wang Chi-Ming. Representing Taiwan Historica were Director Huang Hung-Sen, Chief Secretary Kevin Hu, Editor Liao Hsueh-Heng, and Specialist Lin Ming-Fei.

Professor NG highlighted the significance of Taiwan Historica as a vital institution for the study of Taiwanese history and culture. He emphasized that this collaboration represents a milestone in the History Department's development. As the department approaches its 80th anniversary, this partnership underscores its commitment to growth and excellence. He also noted the department’s recent achievements, including hosting a series of lectures by Academicians from Academia Sinica and attaining recognition for its Bulletin of Historical Research as a top-tier academic journal. NG expressed confidence that the partnership will enhance resource sharing, academic collaboration, joint exhibitions, and student internships, further strengthening teaching and research capabilities.

Director Huang Hung-Sen, who assumed office at Taiwan Historica last July, shared his vision of transforming the institution from a relatively self-enclosed system into one actively collaborating with universities and government agencies. He described the partnership with NTNU as a step toward greater openness and accessibility, aligning with Taiwan Historica’s mission to provide convenient and inclusive services.

In response to the needs of the History Department, Huang pledged to grant free access to archival resources and facilities for the history department, including exhibition halls, seminar rooms, and briefing spaces. He also announced plans to offer students practical training and internship opportunities at the Archives. Moreover, he welcomed NTNU faculty to participate in commissioned projects and academic events hosted by Taiwan Historica, fostering a dynamic environment for high-quality academic collaboration.

Honorary Professor Wu Wen-Hsing, a key advocate for the partnership, expressed his delight at witnessing this historic moment. He remarked, 'A good beginning is half the success,' and highlighted the expertise of NTNU’s faculty in Taiwanese history research. Wu expressed hope that this agreement would enable both institutions to fully utilize this platform and achieve mutual benefits. (Source:History Department)
