HNUE Delegation Renews and Strengthens Partnership with NTNU
A delegation from Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE), led by President Nguyen Duc Son, visited National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) for a two-day academic agenda. HNUE, one of Vietnam’s largest public universities, is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and has been a university-wide partner of NTNU since 2017. During this visit, both universities signed an extension of their existing MOU and student-exchange agreements, reaffirming their commitment to academic collaboration.
Departmental Exchanges: Advancing Teacher Training and Collaboration
On January 6, HNUE professors visited NTNU’s College of Education, College of Science, College of Sports and Recreation, and School of Teacher Education to explore collaboration across teaching, research, and student development.
At the College of Education, the delegation met with Dean Prof. Hsiu-Lan Tien and Professors from the departments of Child and Family Science, Civic Education and Leadership, Health Promotion and Health Education, and Educational Psychology and Counseling. Discussions centered on student exchanges, co-teaching courses, and gradually expanding collaboration to EMI and ESL initiatives, joint research, and publications.
At the College of Science, the delegation met Dean Prof. Jein-Shan Chen and Professors from Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, Earth Sciences, and Science Education. Both sides noted strong alignment between their science-related units and identified the Department of Chemistry as a starting point for cooperation, given its established EMI curriculum and promotion of overseas study, supporting NTNU’s internationalization strategy.
At the College of Sports and Recreation, Prof. Yu-Kai Chang, Chair, and Prof. Ching-Wei Chang, Deputy Chair, of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences hosted discussions on student exchanges, faculty training, workshops, and research collaboration, including plans for a summer 2026 teacher training program in Vietnam focused on sports education, mental health, and mindfulness.
At the School of Teacher Education, Division Heads Prof. Hsin-Heng Chen and Prof. Yu-Lim Chen, along with other representatives, discussed overseas teaching practicums and internships in EMI subjects, with exchanges expected as early as November 2026, and reviewed EMI-based courses to enhance exchange students’ international perspectives and establish a credit equivalency framework.
Signing & Exchange Highlights: University-Level Alignment
In the afternoon, NTNU Smile Ambassadors led the delegation on a campus tour, highlighting the university’s historic landmarks, before the group attended a cultural session at the NTNU Mandarin Training Center, including tea-making activities. The day culminated in the Signing Ceremony, represented by NTNU President Cheng-Chih Wu and HNUE President Nguyen Duc Son, officially extending the partnership between the two universities. The ceremony celebrated their long-standing collaboration and confirmed key initiatives discussed throughout the day, setting the stage for expanded student exchanges, joint research, and faculty cooperation in the years ahead.
Comprehensive Forum: Expanding International Collaboration
On January 7, the two universities held an Exchange Forum that focused on a top-down discussion of potential collaboration, building on the first day’s departmental meetings. The forum was hosted by NTNU Executive Vice President Prof. Yao-Ting Sung and included faculty from the Office of International Affairs, College of Technology and Engineering, Graduate Institute of AI Interdisciplinary Applied Technology, Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Graduate Institute of Science Education, as well as Vietnamese students currently studying at NTNU.
Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Yi-De Liu opened the presentations with an introduction to NTNU’s key facts and internationalization efforts, followed by NTNU faculty presenting departmental research collaboration opportunities. HNUE, represented by Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Quynh, Acting Director for the Institute of International Education and Training, then presented their university’s recent achievements and shared perspectives on future cooperation.
The two-day visit reinforced NTNU and HNUE’s long-standing partnership and set a roadmap for future cooperation. From departmental meetings to the Exchange Forum and the signing ceremony, both sides identified initiatives in student exchange, faculty training, joint research, and EMI programs, highlighting their shared commitment to internationalization and academic collaboration.
