The central government decided to organize the annual Arbor Day activity on the Kungkuan campus today, while the president, the vice president and Marshall Islands president were all present.

The activity, held by the Cabinet’s Council of Agriculture (COA), was participated by President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁), Vice President Annette Lu (呂秀蓮) and Marshall Islands President Litokwa Tomeing, who was just recently elected as the president and is now visiting Taiwan. COA said that the activity was designed to promote the idea of slowing down global warming by growing more trees.

"Growing more trees happens to be a part of APEC’s policies, which were made to slow down global warming. We also need to contribute ourselves to the policy by growing more greens to protect our environment,” Chen said.

In addition to government officials, a group of Wanfu Elementary School children also participated in the activity and each of them grew a tree as well.
