A total of 3,497 students, including undergraduate and graduate students, became alumni after the commencement which was held at the gym on the main campus at 6:30pm today.

"Let’s Fly” was the theme of this year’s commencement as paper planes were seen almost everywhere on the campus while Class 1970 graduate of English Department Charles Lin (林正祥), who is now head of Yoshine Helicopters Inc. (祐祥直升飛機股份有限公司), sponsored a real baby helicopter from Taichung to respond to the theme.

"These paper planes were designed to reflect the hope that our graduates will fly high after they walk out of NTNU today,” said Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄), president for National Taiwan Normal University.

In addition to regular awards or announcements for remarkable students during their studying at NTNU, special awards of courage and determination went to Gary Hung (洪甘霖) and Chiang Bing-shiun (蔣秉勳) of Department of Special Education for their insisting and continuing to carry on their studies although both of them are handicapped.

In addition to graduates, their parents, family members and friends also crowded the gym and the auditorium where a screen was set up for those who would not access the gym because of the crowd.

The commencement ended around 9pm, after Gou led graduates for their last campus tour.
