Weekend Program Graduate Students Vow to Study Hard

<p><font face="Arial">By Bunny Chen<br /> Campus Reporter</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Being innovative and creative and you would be able to decide your own future and make it stay on the right track, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) President Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄) said during today's orientation for weekend program graduate students who will begin their classes next semester.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;Take good advantage of all kinds of sources on the campus and think positively, you will definitely achieve a better success for your own future,&rdquo; Gou said.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Gou made his remarks during the orientation for a total of 823 part-time graduates students, who will attend classes in the evenings and on the weekends to complete their required credits for masters since the new semester in September.&nbsp; Most of these weekend program students have graduated from colleges for decades so their willing to return to the campus and continue their study while remaining working at the same time was highly recognized and affirmed by Gou during the orientation.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;This is exactly the spirit of life-time learning,&rdquo; Gou said.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Among these 823 students, some of them are actually NTNU alumni.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Taipei County&rsquo;s Yi-shiue Junior High School Academic Affairs Director Chang Ming-shu (張銘樹) graduated from NTNU&rsquo;s Department of Industrial Education in 1990.&nbsp; He decided to return to NTNU to pursue his masters in Department of Education because of real needs at work.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;I want to be more professional,&rdquo; he said.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">National Kaohsiung Normal University&rsquo;s librarian Wang Hsien-chang (王憲章) is a retiring staff member of the school but he decided to continue his study at NTNU&rsquo;s Graduate Institute of Library and Information Studies because he does not want to be replaced so soon.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;We have high speed railway now and I will travel between Kaohsiung and Taipei every week.&nbsp; It will not be that tough for me at all,&rdquo; he said.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">For these weekend program students who have been working for years, Gou encouraged them to challenge their instructors in classes.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">&quot;What your teachers say may not be always right.&nbsp; Questioning your teachers carefully and trying your best to find the answers with teachers&rsquo; leads will help inspire you for more fresh ideas.&nbsp; That is the spirit of learning,&rdquo; Gou said.</font></p>
