A total of 300 international students experienced their Moon Festival on the campus tonight.

For the first time, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and the Mandarin Training Center (MTC) co-organized the “2008 Welcome Party and Moon Festival Party,” which was designed for international students and held in front of the swimming pool on the main campus from 6pm to 9pm.

These 300 international students came from different departments of National Taiwan Normal University. One hundred of them are MTC students.

To help international students know more about Moon Festival, including its background and related food, OIA and MTC designed lots of performances, shows and food at the scene.

Graduate student Malgorzata Dudzisz from Poland said that she enjoyed the event. This first-year graduate student from Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language affirmed the idea for organizing the event to help foreigners know more about local culture.

"This was really an interesting and enjoyable evening to me,” she said.

Among all the shows, American student Steven Jones’ tea serving ceremony was highlighted.

"It was a pleasure to bring tea serving culture to people who are not familiar with it,” Jones said.

Meanwhile, although moon cakes and pomelos were served at the scene, moon cakes became most people’s favorite anyway.

While international students were having fun, Taiwanese students, however, said that they would hope to participate in activities like this in the future.

"We Taiwanese students are also part of the school so we hope we have equal opportunities to join activities like this,” said Veasna Lee (李婉如), a junior from English Department.
