Many athletes won their medals out of expectation on the first day of the Sports Day at National Taiwan Normal University while it was launched this morning.

Lin Yen-fang (林艷芳), a junior from the Physical Education Department, stated that she was worried about her performance in long jump because of the game would be competitive and she did not go through enough training courses recently. The result of the game proved that she was worried too much because she ended up with a gold medal in the discipline, with 5.33 meters of record.

"Even with training, I used to average 4.98 meters,” Lin said. “This came really as a big surprise to me.”

Also, Tsao Chia-hsiu (曹嘉修), of the Earth Sciences Department, who never practiced baseball nor softball, reached the top 12 in softball throw, which made him qualified for the finals.

"I can’t really explain this,” Tsao said. “I just threw the ball using the reflexes I got from my training in badminton and volleyball.”

Tsao won the bronze from the badminton men’s division II during the National Intercollegiate Athletic Game earlier this year.

In related Sports Day games, Lo Sheng-chieh (羅升階) from the Graduate Institute of Exercise and Sport Science won a gold medal from the softball throw, with a record of 68.81 meters. In shot put, it was Chen Kuan-lun (陳冠綸), a freshman from the Physical Education Department, who won the gold with a record of 10.54 meters.
